Ayman al-Zawahri to head al-Qaida following Bin Laden's death
He is the son of an upper middle-class Egyptian family of doctors and scholars. His father was a pharmacology professor at Cairo University's medical school, and his grandfather was the grand imam of Al-Azhar University, a premier center of religious study.
The announcement was posted on Thursday on a website known to be affiliated with the terror network.

Meanwhile..........
Radical Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after a trial on charges of sanctioning and funding a jihadi training camp that brought together terrorists from almost every known Indonesian extremist group.
The masterminds behind the camp in a remote area of westernmost Aceh province allegedly planned attacks on foreigners and assassinations of moderate Muslim leaders such as Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

ETA - here's the BBC on the new AQ leader:
In his message last week, Zawahiri applauded the Arab uprisings against "corrupt and tyrant leaders" and urged those involved to continue their "struggle until the fall of all corrupt regimes that the West has forced onto our countries".Remarkable how close that is to Mike Rivero's position. Which is intriguing, because Rivero and co (the patriots and conspiracists) imagine AQ is an arm of American policy - which they are supposed to be against.
So here we have another paradox of the conspiracist view - that AQ apparently supports the Arab/African uprisings, even as US policy opposes the protests and supports the regimes (AQ say such regimes have been 'forced onto our countries by the West'!).

LOL, you actually believe there's such thing as al Qaeda? LOL. It's a CIA invention of faceless boogeymen----and you FALL for the lie.
You DENY an EASILY provable fact like 6,000+ troops are dead, but believe in al Qaeda. Nuff said.
Well, for one thing I knew a radical muslim dude who totally believed in AQ. If he believes it, it's real. If he chooses Jihad, it's real. Obviously.
There's more to it than that though, obviously.
Of course the US through CIA and whatever else is part of the AQ story.....it's well known.
However, it's completely wrong to assume that means AQ is the CIA's puppet. Their interests overlapped in Afghanistan in late 70s early 80s. That doesn't mean they are one and the same thing - it doesn't mean AQ is the CIA - or even operates at its direction. It doesn't mean that at all.
For one thing, AQ surely does represent some measure of muslim/arab opinion. They surely have some measure of public support. That all means the forces they represent are real, to some degree (which is difficult to accurately determine).

To go back to your outrage about my denying 5,000 US soldiers have died......
Have you ever considered how revolting your position is on 911 if you are wrong about AQ?
If you're wrong, those 3000 lost souls wouldn't be very impressed, right?

It wouldn't change my stance at all, because even if al Qaeda is completely 100% real, I'd still believe or government was behind the attacks. al Qaeda being real or not doesn't change anything...it would only be different on who's to blame. And even if al Qaeda is real, that still doesn't excuse the fact that our government and defense agencies failed MISERABLY on that day.
I don't hold the position that our defense agencies failed that day. I believe it was an orchestrated plan by our government. Isn't it funny that 9/11 truthers are called un-American scumbags by people who buy the official account, yet WE are the ones who believe that our government agencies are stronger and competent than what was displayed on 9-11.
BUT if you buy the official story and take the stance that our government agencies FAILED that day, then you are considered patriotic and true lovers of America.
How absurd.

No, I meant if you're wrong that AQ are responsible. Keep up, please.

I know - it was the basis of my question. It's obvious you believe that - of course I know you believe it. Yet you still misunderstand my question. Jeez....
"No, I meant if you're wrong that AQ are responsible. Keep up, please."
You mean "AREN'T" responsible? Your question would ONLY be valid if you meant to say "aren't" and not "are". I don't think they ARE responsible---so your question as it stands has no meaning, unless you mean "AREN'T".
Keep up please.
Love how you ignored the last post.
I'm waiting for you to get up to speed. It's taking a while.
