Why does the American "patriot" movement tend to regard Israel as such a pariah, when it might reasonably be expected Israeli indominability would appeal to the American revolutionary spirit of independence?
Americans had to kill people to become "Americans". To throw off external domination, imperialism, subjugation.
I'd have thought Israel's position and actions would thus appeal to that particular pride of Americans, especially amongst the "patriot movement".
I guess it's the attendant American Nationalism that makes the difference.....the fear that Israel/Jews are compromising American independence, and yankee nationalism takes absolute precedence over other nationalisms, even if they reflect america's own.

TLNL, I think you're getting the wrong impression of the so-called Patriot Movement due to the internet. Most ardent right winger and Libertarian types love Israel and are more likely to have latent racist ideas about the Muslim world. The Agent99-BiggieBigDan-Rivero-Rense-Tinoire types reek of being plants. It's funny to see Tinoire's site totally jump the shark suddenly moaning about anti-semitism and posing as communists after years of putting Rivero on a pedestal and supporting Ron Paul. It makes me laugh out loud, lol in internet speak! Thankfully, I bet that website and others don't get nearly the page views they would like, including the discredited BradBlog, except for the truly clueless and others seeking some chewing gum for the mind.
The wrong impression of the patriot movement?
Doubtless I am only really focused on the most fascist aspects.
But......it is an essentially ultranationalist movement.....and it has Christian Identity running through it.....it's Christian fundamentalist......paranoid.....attracts those feeling dispossessed and powerless....patriarchal....anti-communist....violent.....racist.....
Rivero and Jones both have roots in the patriot movement. Surely all of their subject matter is regurgitated 'patriot' subject matter? Alex Jones boasts of having rebuilt the WACO church, or something. Rivero loves his "Ruby Ridge", his OKC bombing stuff......the Special Forces Underground.....
When I was younger I learnt the preamble to the American Declaration of Independence off by heart - because it spoke so powerfully to me. In no way do I mean to suggest that that sort of spirit and sentiment is "fascist". But I do mean to say that fascists are making a great deal of use of such sentiment in N America, and that such N American mythology is a definite vector for fascism.
I'm not dismissing your points. I actually agree for the most part. I'm only saying that not all wingnuts are anti-Israel. Many of them are pro-Israel and anti-Muslim. Different strokes for different nuts, so to speak. One example- Pat Robertson.
